We actually managed the pumpkin patch…..ALL of us and Grammy and Papa!
Schedules
As a blended family, one of the issues we deal with is schedules. We are lucky enough to have our every other weekends worked out to having ALL the kids with us every other weekend. Let me tell you, those off weekends are rough! When I first started this every other weekend journey, there was no husband and no baby. Now, there’s a husband, his 3 kids, and our baby!
Let me be completely honest with you all, the early period of my separation/divorce from the bigs’ dad was nice! Every other weekend was like a mini vacation! I could do whatever I wanted, go out of town, stay out late….I hadn’t been able to do that in…..well, a long time! Guess what…the fun wore off pretty quickly! I missed my babies when they were gone. Enter Creg, he filled the lonely gap for a while. Kept my mind focused elsewhere. I was still adjusting to this new way of life. That mini vacay seems great in the moment….
Now, we have a blended family with a little one! We have one weekend with just Dax followed by a weekend with all. The weekends we have all, we are trying to juggle all of their activities plus fit in some fun family time. There are some things we just don’t get to do, and that’s okay! Our hope is that they get to fill in the other weekends with fun family time on the other side. The weekends we just have Dax….well, those are rough. Dax is used to being entertained! When the bigs are gone HE’S lonely!!! I do enjoy my one on one time with him, though. =)
More on my scheduling thoughts another time…….Now……
The Patch
We were fortunate enough to be able to take all the kiddos to the pumpkin patch this year. My mom likes to take the kiddos to the patch by where she grew up. The patch is usually followed by a trip by the old farm.
This year, we split up. The “big kids” with Creg and the “little kids” with me. And since I had the camera, I failed to get pictures of the big kids….ooops! Next year.
Dax thought the goats were fascinating! I think they may have thought the same about him.
As much as we wanted Dax to come and explore with us, he found his way back to the silly goats!
We went through the corn maze, played some pumpkin games, got Grammy involved with the tube rolling, and had a great time! We even worked on our teeter totter balancing. You can see a picture here.
We finished off the visit with picking up pumpkins. We picked a big ugly pretty pink one for the front porch and each kid got a small one of their own. We’ll carve those later.
All in all, it was a wonderful time! Next year, I’ll remember to capture everyone at the patch!
The Wagon Wheel is completely free to enter! There is a charge for pumpkins and food, but the games, maze, corn box, are all FREE!!! When there are 7 kids, we are all about cheap family fun! The important thing is being together!
